El Dorado County Amateur Radio Club
CERA is the parent organization for the El Dorado Amateur Radio Club (EDCARC). EDCARC was formed in 1964 and is the premier Amateur Radio club in El Dorado County, California representing a wide cross section of interests of Amateur Radio Operators.
EDCARC's purpose is to promote amateur radio and create a pool of experienced radio operators to provide emergency communications under the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES) as a public service.
Recent examples of emergency and public communications services that EDCARC ARES members supported include:
- 2021 Caldor Fire Animal Rescue to provide communication safety support for Animal Control Officers and rescue personnel (see also ARRL News)
- 2022 Winter Snowstorms that knocked out power and cell service in the Georgetown and Pollock Pines areas of El Dorado County
- 2022 Pony Express Re-Ride through El Dorado County
EDCARC meets monthly in-person and online to conduct club business, discuss various topics related to amateur radio, hear presentations, and plan projects to develop technical skills and advance operating techniques.
